Hi guys, come back to me with this table manner topic. Last week my blog discussed the ethics of eating in one of Europe's, likely Spanyol (Spanish). And this week, I will discuss about table manners in Asian countries. I have a discussion on the topic. This week is the country of South Korea. Why? because the South Korean population is unique and there are some specials in their eating procedures.
Do you know that table manner in the country of South Korea?
Surely you have often seen in some electronic media or on youtube about table manners in that country. Do you think the special one is certainly in a table manner? And how is the ethics of eating food or in your opinion the Asian country this one is similar to the ethics of eating with other Southeast Asian countries? Okay, there must be something different. Than you curious guys, let's follow one topic on my blog today, such as:
Eating Procedure's
In this country, have ethnics of eating and have habits. So there are special from this table manner in South Korean.
1. Eat use chopsticks
South Koreans are very common using chopsticks as the main equipment when eating. the unique chopsticks used by South Koreans are made of metal. And the rule of placing chopsticks is placed in a parallel position on the table.
2. Don't lift the bowl when eating
South Koreans do not allow lifting bowls when eating. So the best way you can do "just put it on the table only"
not only chopsticks used as tableware. Spoons are also used to eat soup when eating.
South Koreans must before saying " Jalmeokhoseumnida" which means: (I will eat well). That habit is often done when you want to eat and show politeness. You must remember guys, "politeness is the highest primary tolerance in the country. waiting for the greeting from an older person is something that usually happens there."
4. Don't eat alone
There are South Koreans who think eating alone is unusual. Because the views of South Koreans are considered as someone who has no friends and cannot socialize with the surrounding environment.
3. South Koreans like to eat with older people
Koreans really appreciate older people. In fact, the majority of South Koreans have shared eating habits. Guys I give tips when you are invited to eat with Korean people, such as:
a. Do not sit first before older people sit.
b. Koreans usually eat in a sitting position on a pillow (without chairs) and use a low table. And position your legs crossed.
c. Before eating say "Jalmeokhoseumnida" which means: "I will eat well"
d. Eat a dish from the closest position. When eating, it is recommended along with older people.
Note:
✓ The thing you need attention to the duration of the meal. Don't eat too fast. If that happens then you will be considered rude.
✓When finished eating do not place the chopsticks on the bowl in an upright position. In that country, it is considered immodest and can bring bad luck. Simply place chopsticks on the table in a parallel position. And you can see picture below:
If you are food or drunk by your partner who is sitting next to you. Then, you must accept the gift. If you refuse it means you are not polite. Okey guys, you must accept food offers from your friends.
5. Required to spend food in the bowl of his own
South Koreans must spend food in their own bowls. But, if you get a meal visit / get a banquet invitation by South Koreans. Then the action you can do is you must still be obliged to spend the food. Even though you are already full because of the meal portion. You must spend without leftovers. That is only a form of politeness and gratitude to God. In Korea, cleaning and not leaving food in a bowl is very important.
6. Be careful when pouring drinks into a glass
The habit of Korean people pouring drinks is also considered. If your partner / friend drinks is empty and does not contain drinking water. Then you have to pour it.
7. Say "Masigaemeokgoseoyo" after you finish eating
Culture and ethics of eating in Korea are very unique guys. If you have finished eating, then you are required to say "Masigaemeokgoseoyo" which means: "I enjoy the food".
Okay guys, that's write of My Manner Table topic this week. Hopefully that my topic can be useful and help you when visiting South Korea. See you at the latest table manner topic next week guys.
